The topic of police community relations and conflict management is complex and difficult to grasp for those with no experience in the study of policing. For this reason, fundamental topics and concepts are initially introduced briefly. Later in the book they will reappear to be discussed in the context of historical or recent events. Finally, these concepts may again appear in an effort to reinforce theory and important themes presented in the book. The intent is not to be repetitive, rather it is to provide a richer educational experience by revisiting important concepts as opposed to driving them home in one sitting, so to speak.
