Description
This book provides exercises that introduce students to the practice of tax law by putting some of the material from an introductory income tax course in realistic situations for both transactional and controversy practices. For example, students mark up the tax sections of a form agreement and draft a basic term sheet, paragraphs for a protest letter, and a description for an application for 501(c)(3) status. The format is modular so that professors can introduce one or two exercises per semester to aid the development of practice-ready students and in preparation for the NextGen bar exam. These exercises can be used with any casebook, and each fact pattern provides students with all of the information and law that they need to complete the assignment. Embedded in each exercise is an ethical question, and each chapter provides an optional research prompt. Each exercise requires only ten to fifteen minutes of class time and one to two hours of homework on the written assignment. Faculty can give feedback on the written assignment or post student samples that are available from the author.
