In this three-lesson module, you learn how mindfulness practices can enhance learning and how judges, lawyers, and law students have used mindfulness to improve their ability to focus, concentrate, and decrease stress. You will learn and try out mindfulness techniques.

Lesson One, Mindfulness and the Brain, looks at brain biology and research studies that demonstrate how mindfulness practices can help regulate the nervous system and improve cognition.

Lesson Two, Let’s Practice Mindfulness, introduces mindful breathing, a technique taught to Navy SEALs and used by many judges on a regular basis. This lesson also explains how you can incorporate mindfulness into daily activities.

Lesson Three, Mindfulness and the Legal Community, looks at how the legal community has used mindfulness. The lesson includes reflections by judges who regularly use mindfulness to improve their decision-making and well-being. It also describes law school programs on mindfulness that have improved student well-being.

This module equips you to begin to practice mindfulness and gain the benefits of this practice.
