Changes In New Edition
The changes in the Sixth edition from the Fifth edition of Products Liability and Safety (Cases and Materials) include the following:
- Updated case and journal citations: Throughout the book, we updated the case and journal citations, and other references, as appropriate.
- Photographs and prints: Throughout (e.g. chapters 2, 4, 6, 8, and 9), we added new photographs and prints to enhance the text and improve comprehension.
- Improved style: Throughout the book, we rewrote and otherwise improved the text and editing of cases, added and/or altered headings and subheadings, as appropriate, to improve the book’s clarity and teachability.
- Improved Organization: We rearranged certain chapters to respond to user suggestions (we moved Regulating Defectiveness from Chapter 9 to Chapter 11, post Limitations on Defectiveness) to improve the book’s teachability.
- In Chapter 1, we added new material on an important new Department of Justice Study on litigation.
- In Chapter 6, we added new material on the problem of third-party tampering with food.
- In Chapter 7, we added a new Illinois Supreme Court case on design defects.
- In Chapter 8, we added new material on pictorial warnings and added and enhanced materials on the effect of direct-consumer-advertising on the duty to warn.
